There’s a potential increase in electricity prices looming, with a projected rise of Rs. 3.49 per unit for a one-month period.

In Islamabad, there’s speculation surrounding a potential increase in electricity prices by Rs. 3.49 per unit for the upcoming month. This anticipation arises as NEPRA is scheduled to review the request for monthly fuel price adjustment today.
CPPA has submitted an application under the Fuel Cost Adjustment (FCA) mechanism in April. If approved unanimously, it will levy an extra burden of Rs 34 billion on consumers.
According to the request, electricity generation in April did not rely on furnace oil and diesel. Instead, 22.96% of electricity was generated from hydropower sources, and 10.19% from local coal.
Furthermore, local gas contributed 11.28% to the electricity generation, while 24.97% was sourced from imported LNG. Nuclear fuel accounted for 23.64% of the electricity produced in April.
