Rawalpindi Court Rejects PTI Founder’s Request for Weekly WhatsApp Call with Sons

Former Prime Minister and PTI Founder Imran Khan’s request for a weekly WhatsApp call with his sons has been denied by a Rawalpindi court. Khan had filed a petition seeking permission to communicate with his children via WhatsApp once a week. However, the jail administration cited the absence of legal provisions allowing prisoners to use WhatsApp for such communications.
Previous Court Ruling and Application
Earlier, the court had granted Khan permission to speak with his children twice a month. His sons currently reside in the UK with their mother, Jemima Khan. Despite this, Khan submitted an application to the Rawalpindi Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) after being denied a telephonic conversation with his sons from Adiala Jail.
Legal Challenges and ATC Response
In response to Khan’s plea, the ATC, under Judge Malik Aijaz Asif, requested clarification from the jail administration on the matter.
Legal and Custodial Situation
Imran Khan has been incarcerated since August last year and has faced convictions and legal challenges ahead of a national election. Recent court decisions have temporarily suspended some of his sentences but upheld others, including a conviction related to his marriage in 2018. Additionally, Khan faces ongoing trials under anti-terrorism charges stemming from events in May the previous year.
