PMD Warns of Heavy Monsoon Rains Across Pakistan Until September 5

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecasted a new spell of heavy monsoon rains, driven by humid winds from the Bay of Bengal, expected to sweep across the upper areas of Pakistan from today until September 5. The weather system is anticipated to bring significant rainfall, with potential impacts in various regions of the country.
Alert Issued for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
In response to the weather forecast, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a warning for heavy rains in the region, particularly today and tomorrow (Tuesday). The PDMA has raised concerns about the risk of floods and landslides in vulnerable areas, prompting all district administrations to remain on high alert.
Rainfall Forecast for Punjab and Islamabad
According to PMD’s Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfaraz, northeastern Punjab is expected to receive moderate rainfall, while light rain is likely in cities including Lahore, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Rawalpindi, and Islamabad. The weather conditions may cause disruptions but are not anticipated to bring severe flooding.
Weather Conditions in Karachi and Sindh
The PMD recorded the minimum temperature in Karachi at 25°C on Monday, with the maximum temperature expected to range between 31°C and 33°C. The city is likely to experience cloudy skies with a possibility of light rain or drizzle at night.
Other parts of Sindh, such as Hyderabad, Thatta, Tharparkar, Mithi, and Badin, are expected to see rain by tomorrow (Tuesday), while Karachi could receive both light and heavy rain on September 4. The new system follows the recent heavy rainfall and strong winds caused by Cyclone Asna, which dissipated without making landfall.
Rain Forecast for Balochistan
During an appearance on Geo News, Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfaraz mentioned that northeastern Balochistan is also expected to receive heavy rains, adding to the challenges faced by the region after the previous monsoon spell. He also noted that the intensity of heat is likely to increase after September 7, following the end of the current monsoon system.
Precautionary Measures
Given the forecast, authorities across the affected regions are advised to stay vigilant and take precautionary measures to mitigate the potential impacts of heavy rains, including possible flooding and landslides. Residents are urged to stay informed about weather updates and follow the guidance provided by local authorities.
