The Pakistan Meteorological Department has issued a comprehensive weather forecast indicating a mix of rain and persistent heat across different regions of the country. While many areas will experience rain and thunderstorms, Karachi continues to endure intense heat and humidity.

Weather Forecast Across Regions

Islamabad:

  • Forecast: Warm and humid with possible rain showers in certain areas.
  • Impact: The rain might provide some relief from the heat but could also lead to minor disruptions in daily activities.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa:

  • Rain Expected In: Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Buner, Malakand, Mardan, Nowshera, Swabi, Haripur, Khyber, Peshawar, Kohat.
  • Details: Thunderstorms are likely, with varying intensities across different districts. Residents are advised to stay updated on local weather alerts.

Punjab:

  • Rain Likely In: Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Sialkot, Narowal, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Sargodha, Jhang, Faisalabad, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Sahiwal, Bahawalnagar, Kasur, Okara.
  • Impact: Rain may disrupt outdoor activities and potentially affect agricultural operations. Authorities have urged citizens to take necessary precautions.

Balochistan:

  • Rain With Strong Winds Expected In: Lasbela, Awaran, Khuzdar, Zhob, Barkhan.
  • Details: These regions may experience gusty winds along with rain, possibly leading to temporary power outages and transportation delays.

Sindh:

  • Thunderstorms Anticipated In: Umarkot, Tharparkar, Mithi, Sanghar, Karachi, Thatta.
  • Impact: While rain might bring slight relief, particularly in Karachi, intense heat will still dominate the weather conditions.

Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan:

  • Forecast: Partly cloudy with rain likely at isolated places.
  • Impact: The weather is expected to remain generally pleasant but with occasional showers.

Detailed City Forecasts

Lahore Weather
  • Recent Developments: Recent rain in Lahore has not significantly altered the overall weather conditions but has increased humidity levels. This has led to several LESCO feeders tripping, resulting in power outages in areas such as Green Town, Garden Town, and Kot Lakhpat.
  • Current Impact: The outages have affected daily routines, with efforts underway to restore the tripped feeders. All organizations are on alert to effectively implement the rain emergency plan.
  • Upcoming Weather: The Met Office has forecast rain for today, tomorrow, and the day after. Residents are advised to stay prepared for potential flooding and transportation disruptions due to the continuous rain.
Karachi Weather
  • Current Conditions: Karachi continues to experience severe heat and humidity, with the temperature recorded at 31°C but feeling as high as 39°C due to the 83% humidity.
  • Future Outlook: Despite a low-pressure system expected to dissipate and move towards Oman, Karachi will remain very hot and humid for the next 24 hours. However, relief is anticipated as the sea breeze is expected to resume by this evening, potentially bringing light rain and thunder in certain areas.
  • Expert Insights: Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfraz noted that the low pressure in the south was supposed to end two to three days ago but has lingered unexpectedly. Its dissipation is now expected to bring some weather relief to Karachi residents.

Additional Notes

Emergency Preparedness

The persistent heatwave and sporadic rain have prompted authorities to remain vigilant across various regions. Emergency plans are in place, especially in flood-prone areas, to address any adverse weather impacts.

  • Health Precautions: Medical experts advise residents, especially in Karachi, to stay hydrated, avoid direct sunlight during peak hours, and wear loose, light-colored clothing to combat heat-related illnesses.
  • Infrastructure Measures: Local governments in affected areas are on high alert, focusing on maintaining power supply and clearing potential blockages in drainage systems to prevent flooding.

While rain is expected to provide relief in several parts of Pakistan, Karachi continues to face challenging weather conditions. Residents are encouraged to stay updated on the latest weather reports and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety and well-being. The coming days will require careful attention to both the weather developments and the corresponding infrastructural responses to mitigate any potential disruptions.
