Karachi Braces for Light Rain Amid Soaring Temperatures, Says PMD

Sardar Sarfaraz, the chief meteorologist at the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), stated that parts of Karachi are likely to experience light rain and wind in the coming days. However, this rain will not significantly impact the city’s high temperatures, which could soar up to 40°C.
Brief Respite from Heat
Earlier, some areas of Karachi received unexpected brief showers, accompanied by strong winds and even a hailstorm, offering temporary relief from the intense heat. The rain was concentrated in several parts of the city, including Malir, North Karachi, Bufferzone, Gulshan-e-Hadid, Gulistan-e-Johar, and Shah Faisal Colony.
Weather Forecast
Despite the showers, Sarfaraz warned that the high temperatures would persist, with the mercury likely reaching 39-40°C in the city. The weather expert attributed the windstorm to the convective energy produced by the earth’s heat, creating localised rainstorms.
Cyclone Watch
Sarfaraz also highlighted a low-pressure system that has formed in the south-east of the Arabian Sea, which could intensify into a depression over the next couple of days. However, he assured that most post-monsoon cyclones in this region typically move towards Oman, and Pakistan’s coastline is not under threat at this time.
Cooler Nights Up North
In contrast, the northern parts of Pakistan are experiencing significantly cooler night-time temperatures, with some regions dipping into single digits, signaling the onset of colder weather.
