Heavy Rains to Lash Country: Meteorological Department Issues Urban Flooding Warning

The Meteorological Department has issued a forecast for substantial heavy rainfall across various regions of the country, expected today and tomorrow.
Urban Flooding Alert
Heavy rains are predicted to potentially cause urban flooding in the low-lying areas of Upper and Central Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The forecast also warns of possible flooding in the rivers and streams of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galiyat, Kashmir, and Koh-e-Suleiman.
Weather Updates Across Major Cities
- Islamabad: Rainfall is expected in some parts of the city today.
- Lahore: Light rain, accompanied by dark clouds and winds, has made the weather pleasant. The monsoon rains are set to begin today and will continue until July 21.
- Karachi: Most parts of Sindh, including Karachi, are likely to experience rainfall. A new spell of monsoon winds is anticipated to hit Karachi from July 18, with heavy rains expected from July 20. The city’s air quality has improved, although it remains one of the most polluted cities globally and the fourth most polluted in Pakistan.
Impact and Emergency Measures
- Gujrat: An hour and a half of rain has severely disrupted the district administration’s performance, leading to significant water accumulation on roads and flooding homes. Tragically, two children lost their lives due to a roof collapse.
Authorities on High Alert
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has instructed provincial disaster management authorities and local administrations to remain vigilant and prepared for potential emergencies caused by the heavy rainfall.
