Government to Conduct National Drug Survey After 13 Years

Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has given approval in principle for the conduct of a National Drug Survey. This marks the first survey of its kind in 13 years, with the previous one conducted in 2013.
Survey Details and Objectives
In a meeting held in Islamabad, Minister Naqvi directed the finalization of all matters related to the survey within 15 days. The survey aims to collect data on drug users across the country.
Collaboration and Methodology
Naqvi emphasized that the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) and the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics should jointly develop the methodology, determine the nature of data required, design the sample format, and set a timeline for conducting the survey. He also stressed the importance of involving international development partners for cooperation.
Comprehensive Data Collection
The minister underscored the need for the survey to be authentic and comprehensive, ensuring it aids in effective decision-making against narcotics. Data collection will not be limited to homes but will also include educational institutions and slums to get a broader understanding of the drug use landscape.
Commitment to Combating Narcotics
Naqvi reiterated the government’s commitment to the fight against drugs, stating, “There will be no compromise in the fight against drugs.”
This renewed effort to conduct a national drug survey highlights the government’s intention to tackle drug-related issues with informed and strategic interventions.
