PM Shahbaz Sharif Emphasizes Importance of Regional Cooperation at SCO Summit

Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif highlighted the significance of enhancing regional ties and cooperation during his opening remarks at the 23rd Summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in Islamabad. He welcomed the Prime Ministers and delegations from all member countries and expressed gratitude for their participation.
Strengthening Regional Ties for Sustainable Development
The Prime Minister stressed that regional cooperation and connectivity are essential for sustainable development and improving the quality of life for people in the region. He pointed out that SCO member countries, representing 40 percent of the global population, have the potential to influence regional stability and prosperity through collective action.
Focus on Afghanistan and Regional Stability
Shahbaz Sharif reiterated that a stable Afghanistan is critical for regional development, urging the international community to extend humanitarian aid. He emphasized the need to ensure that Afghanistan’s territory is not used for terrorism against neighboring countries.
Climate Change and Economic Cooperation
Addressing the challenges posed by climate change, the Prime Minister noted that both Pakistan and other countries are severely affected by its impacts. He called for increased trade ties, attention to tourism, and a focus on green development to ensure long-term growth and sustainability in the region.
Pakistan-China Economic Cooperation
The Prime Minister also highlighted that Pakistan and China are advancing into the second phase of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), emphasizing the corridor’s importance for regional development.
Collective Approach to Challenges
Shahbaz Sharif concluded by saying that no single country can address the complex challenges of the region alone. He called for collective efforts to promote peace, development, and economic prosperity through the shared use of resources.
