A new rain system is expected to enter Pakistan today, bringing rain to most districts of Punjab. The Director General of PDMA (Provincial Disaster Management Authority), Irfan Kathia, has issued an alert, directing deputy commissioners across the province to ensure that staff and machinery are ready to handle the situation.

Rain Forecast Across Punjab and Surrounding Regions

The Meteorological Department has predicted rain with strong winds and thunderstorms in various districts, including:

  • Islamabad
  • Rawalpindi
  • Murree
  • Galiyat
  • Jhelum
  • Attock
  • Chakwal
  • Talagang
  • Sialkot
  • Narowal
  • Gujrat

Rain is already reported to have started in Islamabad, and more showers are expected in the coming hours.

Rainfall Duration and Intensity

According to the PDMA alert, there is a possibility of rain with strong winds and thunderstorms from September 26 to October 1. Areas such as Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, and several cities in Punjab are likely to experience heavy rain during this period.

Rescue Teams on Alert

DG PDMA Irfan Kathia has instructed local administrations to remain vigilant, ensuring that rescue organizations like Rescue 1122 and others are ready with staff and machinery. The public is advised to stay away from dilapidated buildings and standing water in low-lying areas to avoid accidents.

Possibility of Landslides in Hilly Areas

Heavy rains could lead to landslides in hilly regions such as Murree, Galiyat, Mansehra, Kohistan, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Buner, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan, potentially disrupting roads and communication routes.

Sindh Rain Forecast

In Sindh, intermittent rain is expected from September 26 to September 28, with some areas predicted to experience thunderstorms.

Public Safety Advisory

The PDMA has urged the public to:

  • Avoid flood-prone areas and low-lying regions.
  • Keep children away from standing water.
  • Be cautious around damaged buildings and muddy structures.

Local authorities have been directed to drain water from these areas promptly to minimize disruptions.
