Awami Muslim League Chief Sheikh Rasheed, in a media interaction, voiced strong criticism against the current government and the Speaker of the National Assembly. Rasheed compared the handling of drug dealers to the swift actions taken against members of the National Assembly (MNAs), suggesting that drug peddlers are not being apprehended with the same intensity.

Call for Speaker’s Resignation

Rasheed urged the Speaker of the National Assembly to step down if he has any “conscience.” He hinted at the possibility of a single member submitting a no-confidence motion against the Speaker, further intensifying his call for accountability within the assembly.

Personal Reflections on Jail Time

Reflecting on his own experience, Rasheed shared that he spent 40 days in jail and mentioned he would have preferred to serve four years in prison instead. He expressed disappointment with lifelong friends who, he felt, had abandoned him during his time in jail. However, he refrained from criticizing those who were responsible for his imprisonment, saying, “I will not speak against those who kept me in jail for 40 days.”

Criticism of Government’s Hunger for Power

Rasheed also accused the ruling elite of being power-hungry, highlighting their disconnection from the people’s growing disdain. He reaffirmed his earlier prediction regarding the end of September, hinting at upcoming developments. “You will see they are preparing a charter of democracy, but in reality, democracy doesn’t exist in the country,” he remarked, labeling the government as “worthless, incompetent, and useless.”

On Ali Amin Gandapur and Imran Khan

In his statement, Rasheed also mentioned his close friendship with Ali Amin Gandapur, another prominent political figure, while choosing not to comment on the situation surrounding the imprisonment of PTI founder Imran Khan in Adiala Jail.

Rasheed’s remarks reflect his ongoing disillusionment with the current political climate and his determination to remain vocal about what he sees as a corrupt and inefficient system.
