Saudi Arabia Reopens Embassy in Syria After 12 Years

Riyadh: In a significant development, Saudi Arabia has reopened its embassy in the Syrian capital Damascus after a 12-year closure.
According to a foreign news agency, the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed the reopening, with Syrian government officials, diplomats, and scholars attending the ceremony. The ministry hailed the event as an important milestone in the history of Saudi-Syrian relations.
Restoration of Diplomatic Ties
The reopening follows Saudi Arabia’s decision in May 2023 to reestablish diplomatic relations with Syria by appointing Faisal Al-Mujfail as the new ambassador. Saudi Arabia had initially closed its embassy and recalled its ambassador in 2012 due to the onset of the Syrian civil war.
Syrian Embassy in Riyadh Reopens
Prior to this event, Syria had reopened its embassy in Riyadh in December 2022, signaling the beginning of renewed cooperation and diplomatic relations between the two nations after years of strained ties.
This diplomatic revival marks a new chapter in the relationship between Saudi Arabia and Syria, with hopes for further engagement and regional stability.
