Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reiterated the government’s dedication to safeguarding the equal rights of minorities, reflecting Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s vision for Pakistan.

Speaking on National Minorities Day, which commemorates Quaid-e-Azam’s historic August 11, 1947 speech advocating equal rights for all citizens, PM Shehbaz emphasized that the Constitution of Pakistan guarantees these rights. He assured that the government remains committed to protecting the rights of minorities as enshrined in the Constitution.

During a gathering at the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) headquarters, the Prime Minister highlighted the importance of Quaid-e-Azam’s vision, noting that Pakistan was envisioned as a nation where all citizens, including Muslims and minorities, could freely practice their faiths. This vision, he stressed, continues to guide the country today.

In his address, PM Shehbaz also condemned the ongoing violence in Gaza, strongly criticizing the Israeli government’s actions under Prime Minister Netanyahu. He expressed disappointment with the global community’s muted response, calling it a grave failure of international organisations responsible for maintaining global peace.

Reflecting on the contributions of Pakistan’s minority communities, the Prime Minister acknowledged their significant role in the nation’s development. He praised the Christian, Hindu, Sikh, and Parsi communities for their contributions across various sectors, including education, defense, trade, and justice.

He paid special tribute to minority figures who have served the nation, such as Cecil Chaudhry and Justice Cornelius, highlighting their contributions during both wartime and peacetime.

Recognizing the challenges faced by minorities in Pakistan, PM Shehbaz stressed the need for continued efforts by both federal and provincial governments to ensure their security and protection. He reassured minority communities that the government is committed to addressing their concerns and improving their quality of life.

The Prime Minister also emphasized the PML-N’s longstanding support for minority rights, stating that the party, under the leadership of Nawaz Sharif, has consistently advocated for the inclusion and protection of minorities.

The event was attended by several prominent figures, including Federal Ministers Attaullah Tarar, Ch Salik Hussain, Azam Nazeer Tarar, senior PML-N leader Khawaja Saad Rafique, as well as parliamentarians, representatives of minority communities, and senior civil and military officers.
