Shah Mahmood Qureshi indicted in May 9 case

Shah Mahmood Qureshi, a senior leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and former foreign minister, was indicted by an anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Monday in connection with the May 9 riots case. Qureshi was transferred from Adiala jail to Kot Lakhpat jail under tight security for the indictment proceedings. The court has scheduled the next hearing for July 22, during which witnesses will be presented.
Qureshi is implicated in multiple cases related to the May 9 riots in Lahore and has been interrogated by police in jail. These charges are in addition to eight new cases linked to the violent clashes that erupted across Pakistan following the arrest of former Prime Minister Imran Khan in a £190 million settlement case.
Previously, Qureshi was sentenced to 10 years in prison by a special court under the Official Secrets Act in the cipher case. However, this conviction was overturned by the Islamabad High Court (IHC) in June.
The May 9 riots led to the arrest of hundreds of PTI workers and senior leaders, who are accused of participating in violence and attacks on military installations.
